On September 3, 2025, Urban Catalyst officially broke ground on Aquino, our 278-unit multifamily development in downtown San Jose. The ceremony brought together city leaders, community members, and project partners to celebrate the start of a development that will provide much-needed housing in the heart of the city.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan joined the event and delivered remarks emphasizing the city’s growing housing needs. He noted that Aquino represents exactly the type of project the City Council envisioned when introducing the multifamily incentive program last year.

In a fun and symbolic moment, Mayor Mahan even swung a sledgehammer to break one of the walls, marking the start of construction. The celebration continued as our CEO, Erik Hayden, climbed into the excavator and tore down a wall, officially kicking off the project in style.
