Opportunity Zone tax benefits

Defer. Reduce. Eliminate.

Three potential federal tax benefits for qualifying Opportunity Zone investments made in 2027 and beyond.

Up to5 years

Tax deferral

Reinvest eligible capital gains in a Qualified Opportunity Fund and defer federal tax for up to five years, unless an earlier inclusion event occurs.

After five qualifying years10%

Gain reduction

A qualifying five-year hold provides a basis increase equal to 10% of your deferred gain, reducing the original gain subject to federal tax.

A qualifying hold of10+ years

Potential tax elimination

After at least ten years, a qualifying election can exclude eligible appreciation in your Opportunity Fund investment from federal capital gains tax.

For qualifying investments made on or after January 1, 2027. Timely reinvestment, eligibility, required elections, holding periods and fund compliance apply. The remaining original deferred gain becomes taxable after five years, or sooner after an inclusion event. The appreciation exclusion is subject to a 30-year basis cap. These program benefits are not a determination of Fund III’s eligibility. California does not conform to these federal OZ incentives. Consult your tax, legal and financial advisors. Who is this intended for?

This page is intended for accredited investors interested in learning about Urban Catalyst’s planned Fund III. Requesting information does not establish eligibility to invest or complete any required verification.

What should I know about OZ tax benefits?
